This recording by Vera Lynn is from a session on September 29, 1939, with Arthur Young on the Novachord. She later re-recorded the song with British Armed Forces personnel. The song is one of the most famous from the era of the Second World War, with heartfelt sentiment of soldiers as they left their families for combat. Vera became known as 'the Forces' Sweetheart', traveling at times to perform for troops.

in 1969, Vera was appointed an Officer and honoured with the Order of the British Empire.  She was appointed 'Dame Vera Lynn, DBE' in 1975 for her continued charitable services to the country.

Vera Lynn died at her Ease Sussex home on June 18, 2020, at the age of 103.

I recorded this video of the 78 RPM record playing on my turntable to share the experience of playing 78s with those who also enjoy the hobby and history of vinyl records. I do not claim or own, nor imply ownership, of the song or music recording in any way.
