Sima Zhao, courtesy name Zishang
Sima Zhao, courtesy name Zishang (子上), was a Chinese military general, politician, and regent of the state of Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms period of China. He is Sima Yi and Zhang Chunhua's second son, Sima Shi's younger brother, and Wang Yuanji's husband.
Sima Zhao capably maintained control of Wei, which had been seized by his father Sima Yi, and previously maintained by his older brother Sima Shi, successfully crushing all internal opposition in the form of dissent and rebellion. In 263, despite opposition, he decided to take advantage of the present weakness in Shu Han to the west and launched an invasion against it. Eventually, the invasion managed to convince its emperor, Liu Shan, to surrender to Wei, tipping the decades-long established balance of power decisively in Wei's favor. Sima Zhao was given the title "King of Jin" in 264, the same year when Zhong Hui's Rebellion got thwarted (with Zhong Hui getting killed by his own men, and Jiang Wei committing suicide upon being surrounded after Zhong Hui's GLORIOUS demise). In Year 265, Destiny had a different idea: Sima Zhao died a year after getting his title. Sima Zhao's son, Sima Yan, posthumously honoured his father as Emperor Wen of Jin (晉文帝), with the temple name of Taizu (太祖) once the Jin dynasty (which later turned out to be apparently one of the worst Dynasties in Chinese history) has been established after the Fall of Wei.
In Dynasty Warriors, I really like Sima Zhao's personality. He kinda reminds me of my younger self whenever he says "Mendokuse" (めんどくせ). I can compare to him in that even if we both have responsibilities to perform, we just gotta do it no matter how troublesome it is for leaders like Sima Zhao. And for his move set in 9 Empires, you guys already saw me do a speedrun with him the other day. I don't need to say how good he is in the game lol. He is instantly S Tier for me, and he is better than Zhong Hui. Mark my words: Sima Zhao is 115% better than Zhong Hui and he will ALWAYS be better than Zhong Hui!
Sima Zhao is definitely one of my favourite Jin characters in the series.
