Beijing criticizes Germany's China strategy; 'de-risking' will hurt German companies

Wang Wenbin at a press briefing in Beijing on Friday. Wang made the remarks in response to Germany's release of its first ever "Strategy on China" on Thursday.
Wang Wenbin: We believe that the acts of competition and protectionism in the name of reducing dependence and de-risking, and overstretching the concept of national security to normal cooperation and pan-politicizing it will only produce the opposite effect and artificially make risks. Drawing lines by values and ideologies, and clamoring for so-called competition in systems, interests, and values all the more go against the trend of the times, and will only exacerbate the division of the world.
In fact, China and Germany share far more consensus than differences and have far more cooperation than competition. The two sides are partners rather than rivals. In the current complex and turbulent international situation, we hope that Germany could look at China's development comprehensively and objectively, formulate rational and pragmatic policies on China, work together with the Chinese side to address global challenges, and contribute more stability and positive energy to world peace and development.
