J1 WAIVER: A STEP BY STEP GUIDE
Step 1: Getting clearances from your home country (NORI-NO OBLIGATION TO RETURN TO INDIA)
*Application pre-approval/get forwarded from Indian Embassy in USA
*Send application for NORI in India by Self to MHRD DELHI, STATE Office, Passport Office.
*Get no objection Letter from all three.. a copy goes to Indian Embassy directly
Step 2: Online Application and Mailing in the petition for waiver to Department of State (DoS)
Step 3: Getting your home country embassy in the United States to directly send in a No Objection Letter to the DoS citing your petition number.
Step 4: Waiting! Waiting and waiting
Step 5: Getting a Favorable Recommendation on the waiver from DoS
Step 6: Getting Waiver approval notice from USCIS
NOTE: The Health Minister JP Nadda has decided to tackle the issue by not issuing the NORI (No Obligation to Return to India) certificate to doctors under any circumstances, except those over 65 years of age. A NORI certificate is required by a person who has gone to USA on J-1 visa. This is to just balance the doctors crisis in India I hope.
