Attention! This is my very first video originally made on my main channel, Nightingale In Japan (Link Below). I've decided to move it here as I no longer wish to feature barber-related content on my main channel. This video actually inspired me to create a dedicated Barber channel, knowing how much you all enjoy watching this type of content. Enjoy!
Today was my Birthday and also the day I recorded my Experience at a Japanese Barber. I recount a memorable birthday visit to a barber in Obihiro, Hokkaido, Japan. The barber, Ikeda San, gave me a distinct haircut, shaving the sides to a number 2 and neatly trimming the top for styling. This session also included a close shave, where Ikeda San used warm towels to soften my skin. He explained that due to the thickness of my facial hair, a completely close shave might lead to scratches, so he proceeded with caution.
Capturing this unique experience for my video presented a technical challenge. Shot at 60 FPS, the footage exhibited noticeable flickering, a consequence of clashing with Japan's electrical frequency of 50 frames. Filming at 30 FPS could have reduced this effect but would have compromised the smoothness of the video. In post-production, I tried using the trial version of Davinci Resolve, which has a deflicker tool. Although it removed the flickering, it left watermarks on the video. The full version, priced at $295 USD, was outside my budget, and I couldn't find a suitable open-source or third-party alternative that was effective and affordable.
