STORYLINE:
Heavy fighting erupted in Gaza City on Thursday night as hundreds of Fatah gunmen stormed the city's Islamic University, a Hamas stronghold.
At least two people were wounded, and witnesses said flames were seen leaping from one of the university's buildings.
A security official affiliated with Fatah said seven Iranian citizens were arrested at the university, and an eighth committed suicide.
A Hamas official denied the claim and said there were no Iranian citizens at the university.
Iran has supplied Hamas with funds, but there have been no previous claims of Iranians working with Hamas in Gaza.
Clashes spread on Thursday after Hamas gunmen ambushed an official convoy guarded by the Fatah presidential guard and hijacked two trucks in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, security officials said.
The new fighting killed six people in Bureij, including a security officer, hospital officials said, and brought an end to a three-day truce between the warring factions.
