A conversation with M. James Penton (Watchtower historian, author and former elder)

There are few bigger names in ex-Jehovah's Witness literature than Marvin James Penton, a professor emeritus of history at the University of Lethbridge whose books on the Witness movement have established themselves as the definitive guide to Watchtower history.

I had the great honor of interviewing Jim and learning firsthand the story of his escape from the Witnesses during the infamous apostate purge of 1980. We also shared our ideas on the current state of the ex-JW movement - in particular the need for more fairness, compassion and accuracy in criticizing the Watch Tower Society and its leadership.
