He was born as Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner in England. He worked as a teacher for 2 years and performed jazz at the evening, the weekends or during the breaks from teaching. He gained his nickname "Sting" because he often wore a black and yellow sweater with hooded stripes with the Phoenix Jazzmen. The bandleader thought he looked like a bee or a wasp, which gave him the name "Sting". In 1977 he joined Stewart Copeland and Henry Padovani (who was soon replaced by Andy Summers) and formed the band "The Police". The band won six Grammys and sold over a hundred million records worldwide. After 1983 Sting decided to pursue a solo career though the band never officially broke up.

In 1985 Sting released his first solo album called "The Dream of Blue Turtles". The album reached the Top 3 in the UK and was certified double platinum. It also reached #1 in Australia and #2 in the US, where it was certified triple platinum. His biggest single from that album was "Russians" - a song that reached Top 10 in Germany, France and the Netherlands. In 1987 his 2nd solo album "...Nothing Like The Sun" was released. It topped the UK album charts and was certified platinum. In 1991 he released his 3rd album called "The Soul Cages", another #1 in the UK, also #1 in Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland and #2 in the USA where it was certified platinum. In 1993 Sting released his 4th album "Ten Summoner's Tales" - a #1 album in Austria and #2 in the UK and USA. Also in that year Sting released his biggest single as a solo artist, a collab with Bryan Adams and Rod Stewart for the "Three Muskateers" Movie. It topped the US Billboard Single Charts, as well as the German Single Charts ans was also #1 in Australia. Sting released his next albums "Mercury's Falling" in 1996 and "Brand New Day" in 1999. Both went platinum in the UK.

In total Sting has released 14 Studio, 9 Compliation and 6 Live albums with almost 50 singles. Here now are my favorite 10 songs outside of "The Police", hope you enjoy! What is your favorite Sting song? Write in the comments and share with us your memories.
