In this episode of  my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6.5 mile  circular walk from the village of Evershot which is located 13 miles West of Dorchester.  Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.

I parked my car in Evershot and started my walk at the Western end of the village at St John's Well which is considered to be the source of the River Frome.

After visiting the Church at Evershot, I wandered down through the main street in the village, past the Summer Lodge Country House Hotel & the Village Hall.

At the Eastern end of the village, near an ancient seat made of three standing stones on a small triangle of grass, I joined the Hardy Way through Melbury Park.

The footpath took me Northwards through the park & past the magnificent Melbury House and on to the delightful village of Melbury Osmond.

Sir Frederick Treves, in his 1906 book “Highways & Byways in Dorset” described the village as “the most charming village in these Western backwoods”. After visiting the church, I headed Westwards and on to Lewcombe.

At this point, I headed South, joining a section of the Macmillan Way, past Girt Farm and back to Evershot.

This walk has to be one of the prettiest that I have experienced in my series of “Dorset walks” so far!
