In one of his last concert appearances, Sammy Davis Jr. performs his signature song "Mr. Bojangles" at Tokyo Bay NK Hall in Chiba, Japan on February 25, 1989 — a year before his death of lung cancer at age 64.
Davis, who performed extensively in Japan, was touring with Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli as part of a Japan Super Concert series taped by Tokyo Broadcasting System. The opening and closing narratives are from an NPR interview with his daughter Tracey Davis.
The opening scene is from a 1972 appearance on Japan's TBS network with emcee Roy James. The closing concert sequence is from a 1984 concert at the famed Budokan Hall Tokyo.
