What's the difference between a phoneme and a grapheme? In this video we will be looking at some simple examples to help you understand this very important difference.

A phoneme is a speech sound. There are 44 phonemes in the English Language, and these are all represented very clearly on the THRASS chart.

A grapheme is a spelling choice. There are many different graphemes in English (about 250). We use graphemes to represent the phonemes in different ways, depending on the context.
