Understanding the difference between crystalline solids and amorphous solids with simple definition , examples , types, properties and 3d animated diagrams to identify the Classification of Solids i.e. crystalline solids vs amorphous solids for Class 11-12 Chemistry.
In solids, the molecules are not moving in the same manner as those in liquids or gases. Solid molecules simply vibrate and rotate in place rather than move about. Solids are generally held together by ionic or strong covalent bonding, and the attractive forces between the atoms, ions, or molecules in solids are very strong. In fact, these forces are so strong that particles in a solid are held in fixed positions and have very little freedom of movement & therefore Solids have definite shapes and definite volumes.
Types of Solids(on the basis of the arrangement of particles):
Crystalline solids vs Amorphous solids:
1.Crystalline Solid
The regular arrangement of particles
Long range order of particles
Sharp melting point
Anisotropy (show different properties in different directions)
e.g. NaCl,CaCO3,diamond,graphite
    etc.
2.Amorphous Solids:
the irregular arrangement of particles
short range order of particles
broad melting point
isotropic behaviour
(show the same properties in different directions)
e.g. glass, rubber, plastic chalk etc.
Amorphous Solids are also known as supercooled solids.

Classification of Crystalline Solids:
1.ionic crystals
2.covalent crystals
3.molecular crystals
4.metallic crystals
Definition, examples ,properties of ionic ,covalent ,molecular and metallic crystals are explained with animations.
