In this video, we talk about an effective four-step process, tested over time against multiple professional and advanced academic exams, that will help you pass both parts of the US CMA exam.
1️⃣ Start with attending live classes/watching video lectures:
Given that such advanced concepts in finance are new, and can be a challenge to digest on the first go, attending a live lecture or a recording where an instructor simplifies the concepts for you- is the right way to begin!
Also, make sure you don't overdo it! There is a theory called diminishing marginal utility (DMU), which proves that as our consumption increases, the utility derived reduces over time. While attending a class/video lecture, you might gain 80% utility in the first go, and 15% in the second go, but watching the same class/video lecture for the third time might only give you 3-5% utility - a very low return on time and effort invested (to be frank, watching videos for the third time is simply wastage of time!)
2️⃣ Read the textbook thoroughly:
Make sure you are reading the textbook of any IMA-approved prep-provider thoroughly (if you are a finance professional, having some prior experience or idea about the concepts - then you can choose to skim through the chapters) and highlight all the important pointers that will come in handy during your revision time!
3️⃣ Appear of tests / practice MCQs for conceptual clarity:
Once done with class or video lecture and textbook reading, solve at least 30 MCQs from that specific chapter. Here, target a score of at least 80% or more (getting more than 24 MCQs correct). Getting a lower score can be interpreted as having gaps in conceptual understanding and getting a score of more than 80% can be seen as a safe spot to be in!
4️⃣ Complete the steps 1, 2, and 3 cycles for two months covering at least 50% of the curriculum, and appear for mid-season mock:
This will help serve as a wake-up call for all the candidates to see where they stand in terms of preparation. The majority of the students who are laid back get into exam season and prepare for the exams actively. This will also help you manage stress in a better way and reduce exam anxieties as you are confident about the initial 50% of the curriculum.
5️⃣ Complete curriculum, appear for mocks, and solve IMA Support Package:
This will make you exam-ready, IMA support package will help you understand the style and pattern of questions you expect in the exam!
