Welcome to FWP Details first How To video.
In this episode FWP shows you how to clay bar a car. The idea behind the clay bar is to remove bonded contaminates from the paint surface. These include road tar, industrial fall out and tree sap. And the easy way to tell if your paint needs clay barring is to feel it. Lightly rub your hand over the surface; and if it doesn't feel like glass then follow this video and steps below.
Step 1. Start of by safely washing your vehicle using the two bucket wash method.
Step 2. Next rinse the vehicle however, do not dry the car unless you are in direct sun light. This is because we will be later wetting the surface again, so drying would just be wasting precious detailing time!
Step 3. Take your clay bar and warm it up in your hands. This is achieved by needing and folding the clay bar. Once warm shape it into a easy to work with shape.
Step 4. Now use your car wash shampoo (I was using Auto Finesse Lather) to lubricate the selected panel. You can also use a clay lube or quick detailer. However re using your shampoo will save you money £££!
Step 5. Now take your fresh clay bar and lightly rub over the surface using straight lines. You will now feel the contaminants being lifted in to the clay bar.
Step 6. Make sure you keep the panel well lubricated to minimise the chance of damaging your paint work, and the lubrication will help the clay work better!
Step 7. Finally safely re-wash the vehicle to remove any last contaminants and bits of clay that could still be sitting on the paints surface. Dry the vehicle and the protect with a wax or sealant.
