3.5hr IFR X-Country in a Diamond DA42 from Nevada County, CA to Renton, WA after G1000 Upgrade

Welcome to my flight from Nevada County Airport (also known as Grass Valley Airport) near Sacramento in Northern CA up to Renton Airport in the Seattle Metro Area. This was a 3.5hr flight with a distance of 535nm. This was flown in a twin engine Diamond DA42 IV with a cruise speed of 170 knots at 14,000 ft. Nevada County is a very nice mountain airport 60nm to the west of Reno.
In mid-May, the Diamond had its G1000 NXi avionics upgraded from Phase I to Phase II. This adds a few new features but most importantly, it sets up the G1000 for future software upgrades. Behind the panel, the WAAS GPS boxes are upgraded from the GIA 63Ws to the GIA64Ws. To the pilot, the most visible upgrade with Phase II is the new GMA 1360 audio panel. There are only a few avionics shops authorized to do this upgrade and one of them is Alpine Aviation at Nevada County. Gordon Mills is the owner of Alpine Aviation and did a great job on this upgrade.
On a recent Saturday morning, I caught a 6:45am Alaska flight down from Seattle to Sacramento. Gordon flew the DA42 over to Sacramento to pick me up then we flew the 20 minutes back to Nevada County to drop him off.
Then I started the long flight back to Renton.
