You should also keep in mind that growing food in tires can be dangerous. One of the chemicals used in rubber is cadmium, which helps fix the color of rubber used in them. Cadmium is a poisonous metal and vegetables such as potatoes, cabbages, lettuce, carrots, turnips, peanuts, cocoa and tobacco can all absorb it in different quantities. Please keep that in mind if you plan on using tires as planters and stick to using them for non-edible plants.
