Installing LED Upgrade On Our Ender 3...

I've been using TinkerCad to shape and modify most of this robot. We fired up the Creality Ender 3 Pro printer and started giving it things to do. I used Sunlu PLA in black for all parts of this design. Most of our big parts are printed with 25% infill except the dome which is just a couple millimeters thick. I was having issues with stopping the rotation of cheap Amazon continuous rotation servos so I went to Adafruit and purchased three of their FeeTech FS5103R robotics servos, available here. These are some of the best continuous rotation servo’s I have found and are reasonably priced.

I loaded the code into our Arduino UNO and was able to them to stop/center after just a few attempts. I also added micro switches so our puck/t-rex arm/BB-8 head stopped flying off or grinding into itself. It took some trial and error to get the rotations right and working with a joystick but it came out great.

There are 12 neodymium magnets total in the robot arrange in a row of three, double stacked. They are 1.25" in diameter and quite strong - there is definitely a huge attraction between the globe and the outer puck. Transfer bearings hold the puck above the surface of the robot. Unfortunately using the servo horn to hold the top half together was just too much stress and allows more flex then I anticipated. In the x-axis I could only get .1 of a pound before it would grind to a stop. But the next designs should fix all that, so stay tuned for more on this project!
