Tzu Chi survey in the aftermath of Typhoon Carina

One day after Typhoon Carina (Gaemi) dumped nearly 500 millimeters of monsoon rain overnight in Metro Manila and parts of northern Luzon, Tzu Chi volunteers were on the scene, conducting surveys of the horrific damage caused by storeys-high floods. Walking on muddied paths, they met with residents in flood-prone Marikina, Tondo, San Mateo, and Montalban, all disheartened at the loss of property and the thought of starting from scratch. For now, light snacks and a show of compassion helped ease this latest blow in their lives.
