Who better to spotlight in
Who better to spotlight in Black History month, than Walter Dean Myers and his famous novel, the first Michael L. Printz Award recipient, Monster. Taught in many 8th grades, it is the story of one well raised young man growing up in Harlem who goes to a prestigious Science and Maths school, yet somehow finds himself telling the reader his story from a jail cell.
UPPER Middle Grade Novel- Realistic Court and prison depictions.
I apologize for the inferior audio and graphic quality compared to my usual standard.* Included are the graphic novel illustrations that go with the 1st chapter. Art by Dawud Anyabwile Adapted story by Guys A Sims.
Excellent themes of Identity, Society's judgement, and reliable/unreliable narrator.
