Casio CA-53 Calculator Watch - My In Depth Review of a Classic Which is Still Available Brand New

This watch (and/or another one which looks almost exactly the same) has been available since the 1980s. In fact, an earlier version of this watch was the same one worn by Michael J. Fox in the movie Back to the Future in 1985. Effectively, you're looking at a watch which has been in production for almost 40 years as of the time I'm making this video.

So what's so attractive about a watch that has made it a viable product so for many years? I think that, even today, it seems to look like a futuristic watch (somehow) and it's almost a badge of honor for geek culture (if such a thing exists) to have such a device. Or, perhaps, it's just fun for kids to have a watch like this... so much fun that they're still making them after all these years.

Currently, there are a few variations of this watch on the market. They're available with different colors of the cases and watch bands. And those are generally watches which use the reverse LCD or "negative LCD" readout. I liked this one because I generally prefer the normal style LCD screen on any watch.

The CA-53 has been available with different modules over the years. This CA-53 uses module 3208 and the complete instructions are available to download from Casio's website. When it's time to change the battery, this one uses a CR2016 lithium battery.
