Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 3: Karma-yoga - The Yoga of Action -
Everyone must engage in some sort of activity in this material world. But actions can either bind one to this world or liberate one from it. By acting for the pleasure of the Supreme, without selfish motives, one can be liberated from karma

Every body works on this earth, but by working they create bondage. Only a few people who are inclined towards the Great Master perform disciplined action and become united with the Supreme Soul. Just by being indifferent to the fruit of an action, they (KarmaYogis) are rewarded for that action innumerable times by God. By un-attachment alone, Janak, the great king of India, realized his true self.

Shri Krishna says to Arjuna, "By constantly surrendering your action with all your heart to my All Knowing Supreme Soul, you fight this battle without any expectations, attachment and agony."

The great thing in Karma-Yoga is giving up the fruit of one's actions. In Karma-Yoga, one surrenders the fruit; but the question arises: does the fruit come to one, nevertheless, or does it not? Thus the Third Chapter says that the karma-yogi, by giving up the fruit of his action, does not lose it, but paradoxically enough, gains it in infinite measure.
