Iran and Saudi Arabia have agreed to restore bilateral ties as part of a deal mediated by China. This is the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council speaking after days of intense negotiations with his Saudi counterpart in Beijing.
Iran and Saudi Arabia will resume diplomatic relations within two months and re-open their respective embassies. Iran’s Foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says the restoration of ties offers great potential for both countries, the region, and the world of Islam. The Saudi National Security Adviser also welcomed China’s initiative. Beijing, meanwhile, says the restoration of relations is a victory for dialog and peace, and good news for the current turbulent world. Reactions have also been pouring in from elsewhere. Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennet says Tel Aviv’s plots to isolate Iran have suffered a fatal blow.
