The hard disk must be in good condition, and in order to recognize that it is working well, it must be examined with the available methods to ensure the integrity of the data in Computer.
There is more than one way to verify the health of the hard drive, and in this video I explain 3 different methods .. But the question is when to check the drive, the answer is sometimes with the hard disk's aging, clicking sounds will start and you will find that the computer is moving very slowly and or You will find damage to some files for no apparent reason. In this case, the hard drive must be replaced with a new one, but before the replacement process, several checks must be made to ensure the integrity of the hard drive
You should know that every hard drive dies at the end, and when it nears death, you'll see the signs: strange noises, corrupted files, boot crashes, and extremely slow transfer speeds all point to the inevitable end. This is normal.
The methods used to check the condition of the hard disk are:
- Use Optimize and Defrag in Windows 10
Windows 10 built-in defragmenter (type "defrag" in the Start menu, then go to "Defragment and Optimize Drives"), then select the drive and click "Analyze". If fragmentation is detected, click "Optimize" (previously known as "Defragment") for this drive.
We've already found that the free app Defraggler does a better job at detecting and minimizing hashes, but not everyone wants to install additional apps when the functionality is built into the OS.
- Use Windows CHKDSK Tool
This tool is a built-in tool in Windows that scans your disk to find system errors and bad sectors and shows if there are any problems with the hard disk. It will check and fix problems that it can fix and will tell you if there is a bigger problem that cannot be solved. You can use this tool to check hard disk health and fix bad sectors and errors if possible.
- Use WMIC
WMIC is a command line interface that allows you to perform many administrative tasks, including hard disk validation, and lets you know the status and make a simple conclusion, such as "OK" or "Pred Fail" etc. type "cmd" into the search bar. In the pop-up box, run:
(( wmic diskdrive get model, status ))
It will return "Pred Fail" if your drive's death is imminent, or "OK" if it thinks the drive is doing fine.
