How to Beat a Goalkeeper on a Breakaway

As you know, when you get a chance at a breakaway during a soccer game, you’ll have pressure coming from the defenders of the opposite team. It’s not like if you have all the time in the world to make your moves. That said, you’ll need to make your moves relatively quickly all while keeping in mind that some defenders are coming after you to remove the ball. This means, you’ll need to take a quick decision on what you’re going to do between shooting, deeking the goalie or making a chip shot. Furthermore, you need to be assertive with your moves. Hesitation must not be part of the equation when you’re on a breakaway. The angle towards you’re approaching the net will also have an impact on your decision. The more angle you have, the more options you have. For example, if you’re running towards the middle of the field, you should have more options such as deeking, or even placing the ball on either side of the soccer net.
