Garden getting shaded out? Here’s what you can do #gardening

Sometimes, a garden area you planted will get shaded out as your garden matures and tree canopies grow — here are three things you can do:

1. Limb up/prune tree— removing the lower canopy will allow more light to filter to your garden bed — if your trees are taller — I recommend having a professional do this in the winter — when the garden is dormant, less chance of smooshing your favorite perennial

2. Expand your garden beds—  if you have room to expand your garden bed 4-5 feet — you can plant a shade loving taller shrub in the back (hydrangeas, rhododendrons, etc) and pull the rest of your sun loving perennials forward where they’ll get more ☀️

3. Relocate your sun loving perennials and plant shade loving perennials - shade gardens are my favorite because there are so many wonderful colorful perennials to pick from — some of my favorites include: lungwort, hostas, heucheras, astilbe, foxgloves 🌱
