5 months ago, we posted a video of a male sub-adult tiger charging at our jeep in Ranthambore. The video got a great response but also got hate comments from all around the world. Even though we explained the entire story in description and gave a disclaimer at the start, people did not understand what happened. Today, we will share a virtual experience of what happened that day. We want you all to hear this and let us know who do you think was at fault that day. 15th August 2021 – we decided to celebrate 74 years of our freedom with the tigers of Ranthambore. The sky was clear, and the sun was out. The weather was humid but perfect to see striped big cats. But this trip did not come easy for us. We had just ended the trip to Jhalana on the morning of 15th August. And because it was monsoon season, the booking for Ranthambore only happens in the current quota. At 10:00 am, we sat down to book the seats. But because of the festival rush, did not get any. We called our local guides in Ranthambore to see if they could help us find some seats. Unfortunately, everything was booked and we could not get anything. In monsoons, only zones 6-10 are open and we were surprised to see all 5 were fully booked. With the clock ticking, we had to make a decision fast. We could either go home or try someplace else, like Sariska. We just did not want to go home without seeing a tiger. We had seen four leopards on our Jhalana trip, but the heart missed something. Luckily, at 11:00 am, we refreshed to see 4 seats available for Zone 6 of the park. The best zone is from 6-10. And then started the game of fastest finger first. We usually book 6 seats to avoid going with other random people. The risk is that if others are not hardcore wildlifers, the safari experience can get painful and annoying. We were four people and we took the chance of going with strangers. We got 4 seats for Zone 6 of the park. Excited and thrilled, we started our journey from Jaipur to Sawai Madhopur. Grateful to have got a chance to be on a safari, we had no expectations. We just wanted to enjoy the safari and come back home. But who knew, this one safari would change our wildlife experience, forever. So along with all the jeeps, we embarked on our journey into Zone 6 of the park. That day, 12 jeeps entered the zone but only one saw the tiger. Ranthambore’s dry forest makes it perfect for tiger sighting and some of the greatest captures of tigers come from this jungle in Rajasthan. With 65+ tigers and around 20-25 in the tourism zone, there is hardly a day when there are zero tiger sightings. Throughout the year, Ranthambore is dry. Only in these 3-4 months from July to October, the forest turns green. These months are perfect for all the animals here. The herbivores get enough food to eat and raise their young ones. The carnivores get enough vegetation to use as their cover to hunt. And the tourists get beautiful sightings in the green carpet of the jungle. A lot of people complain that Ranthambore is a dry forest where if you don’t see a tiger, all you get is dust in your hair and eyes. For those, it is advisable to visit Ranthambore during monsoons and see a different version of the jungle. We hope you enjoyed the story of the day we got charged by a tiger in the wild. Let us know in the comments what do you think about this whole incident. If you have been through something similar in the wild, please share your experience. Please share this video with your loved ones and educate them on how to behave on a safari. Our national animal is fighting a war of its existence today and we must all come together to protect them. We must learn to appreciate their beauty from a distance, give them the space they deserve, and most importantly, show respect, to the mighty beast of the jungle.
