6 Cylinder Engine - Straight Six - Explained

What is a straight six engine? What are the advantages of an inline six cylinder? I6 engines are inherently balanced, with the primary and secondary forces canceling out without the need of additional counterweights. This is what has made them popular with companies like BMW, and Toyota with the 2JZ. Straight six engines are very smooth, but the are also very long, causing for packaging concerns.
