The vehicle being inspected today, Is A KIA. 4 cylinders, 2.4 liters GDI ENGINE.
0:20 - Customer’s concern.
The customer states, that there is a noise coming from the engine compartment.
0:26 - Verification.
The technician verified, that the engine is making a knocking noise, and that the noise is coming from the crankcase area and it gets louder with higher RPMs.
0:47 - Diagnostic.
The technician performs a scan test and code P1326 knock sensor range performance is active.
Then proceeded to perform KIA’s bulletin for code P1326. bulletin PI1802Y/Z.
Bearing clearance inspection with the engine bearing clearance tester device SST KQ231-2T110QQK.
The tech then removes all the spark plugs, inserts the clearance gauge probe rod in the spark plug hole and tightens it by hand, starting with cylinder 1.
With the crank rotator wrench the technician rotates the crankshaft clockwise until the piston reaches TDC in the compression stroke, the scanner will signal the tech when to stop turning the crankshaft.
Now with the air hose from the SST box to the clearance gauge, depending on the switch selected position, the tester will provide air in the AP position, and vacuum in the VC position, measuring the movement of the piston with the clearance gauge.
The tech will repeat this procedure for all the cylinders.
5:40 - Conclusion.
The tester will record the measurements of each piston and provide a final result of pass or no pass. If the result of the test is no pass, the engine will need to be replaced.
