Cecily Brown and Roger Brown at MACCARONE

BROWN ON BROWN…and I ain't talk'in bout no burnt umber or sienna here. Your reporter pedaled in the spritz to the bottom of the West Village and brought his camera along to Maccrone Gallery to take a peep at Cecily Brown's "The English Garden".  This group of intimately scaled paintings have been in the works since 2005, but have never before been shown together.  They play on the theme of a fantasy garden of lush vegetation and desire.  Then around the corner, Kalm is surprised to bump into some of the late works of Roger Brown, his "Virtual Still Life" pieces.  These paintings meld three dimensional ceramics on shelves with Brown's signature landscape pictures and evoke a nostalgic sense of Americana, and the tchotchke.
