Rahul Tiwari (Aftab Shivdasani) is in love with Sandhya Patil (Amisha Patel) — and has been for the last four years without having the courage to tell her. He follows her everywhere, even waiting to board the public bus until she has. Sandhya is not even aware of Rahul, let alone his affection for her. One day, Rahul finds out where Sandhya lives along with the fact that her father is Police Inspector Raj Patil "Raja" (Ashish Vidyarthi), a cruel, sadistic, drunk, and an abusive man whose wife Rachna (Neena Kulkarni) and daughter live in fear, even in his absence. Raj Patil has no respect for any human being regardless of them being his superiors, his subordinates, or even members of the public whom he has sworn to protect. When Raj finds out that Rahul is trying to enter the life of his daughter, he arrests him publicly, beats him up, and locks him in a cell in his police station.

राहुल तिवारी (आफताब शिवदासानी) संध्या पाटिल (अमीषा पटेल) से प्यार करता है - और पिछले चार सालों से उसे बताने की हिम्मत नहीं कर रहा है। वह हर जगह उसका पीछा करता है, यहाँ तक कि उसके जाने तक सार्वजनिक बस में चढ़ने का इंतज़ार भी करता है। संध्या को राहुल के बारे में पता भी नहीं है, उसके प्रति उसके स्नेह की तो बात ही छोड़िये। एक दिन, राहुल को पता चलता है कि संध्या कहाँ रहती है, इस तथ्य के साथ कि उसके पिता पुलिस इंस्पेक्टर राज पाटिल "राजा" (आशीष विद्यार्थी) हैं, एक क्रूर, दुखवादी, शराबी और एक अपमानजनक व्यक्ति जिसकी पत्नी रचना (नीना कुलकर्णी) और बेटी रहते हैं डर में, उसकी अनुपस्थिति में भी। राज पाटिल के मन में किसी भी इंसान के लिए कोई सम्मान नहीं है, भले ही वे उनके वरिष्ठ, उनके अधीनस्थ, या यहां तक कि जनता के सदस्य भी हों, जिनकी उन्होंने रक्षा करने की शपथ ली है। जब राज को पता चलता है कि राहुल उसकी बेटी के जीवन में प्रवेश करने की कोशिश कर रहा है, तो वह उसे सार्वजनिक रूप से गिरफ्तार करता है, उसकी पिटाई करता है और उसे अपने थाने की एक कोठरी में बंद कर देता है।
