Finding a mediator
You can ask your local council if they can help you find a mediator - they might help even if you’re not a council tenant- gov.uk/find-local-council
If you rent from a housing association, you could ask them about finding a mediator.
If you still need help, you can look for a mediator at: gov.uk/guidance/a-guide-to-civil-mediation
You might have to pay- but it will be cheaper than hiring a solicitor and taking legal action.
Contacting an Ombudsman
An ombudsman looks into complaints about companies and organisations.
To complain about a housing association, go to the Housing Ombudsman : housing-ombudsman.org.uk. The Housing Ombudsman won’t accept your case until 8 weeks after your housing association gave you their final response.
To complain about the council, go to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman: lgo.org.uk
