During the centuries of the Middle Ages, along with the invention of paper, the Chinese took the first steps in the development of the printing press. They sought a procedure that, instead of copying handwriting, would allow them to obtain many equal reproductions of the same original.
Modern printing techniques were born when the German jeweler Gutenberg made two complementary inventions: mobile types of metal, with which the text was composed, and a press that, with a special ink, fixed them on paper.
The printing press was invented in 1400 by the German Johannes Gutenberg, although his main contribution to the world of printing was the simplification of ancient Chinese techniques through two major innovations.
