EN: It is a small organism that feeds on bacteria.
Its body is covered with thousands of "cilia" whose synchronized movement allows movement in all directions, even reversing. Some of these cilia have a purely tactile function, to interact with the external environment, others like those around the "cytostome" the mouth, have the function of introducing food by creating currents and vortices. It is equipped with "trichocysts", harpoons that can be projected for defense purposes, but also to anchor on a substrate. It reproduces both sexually and by division (multiplying itself). Sexual reproduction occurs by combining the two oral cavities (like a kiss) as in the last image of the video. If Paramecium is prevented from "getting married" it can be multiplied only about 350 times and then it is extinguished.
So much complexity in an organism invisible to the naked eye, which is composed of a "single cell"!
The Parameciums of this video live under a vase of flowers, in the gym where I daily train.
There is no need to go far to perceive the wonder of life.

IT: E’ un piccolo organismo che si nutre di batteri.
Il suo corpo è ricoperto di migliaia di “cilia” il cui movimento sincronizzato permette il moto in tutte le direzioni, anche la retromarcia. Alcune di queste cilia hanno una funzione puramente tattile, per interagire con l’ambiente esterno, altre come quelle intorno al “citostoma” la bocca, hanno la funzione di introdurre il cibo creando correnti e vortici. E’ dotato di “tricocisti”, arpioni che possono essere proiettati a scopo di difesa, ma anche per ancorarsi su di un substrato. Si riproduce sia sessualmente che per divisione (moltiplicando se stesso). La riproduzione sessuale avviene coniugando le due cavità orali (come un bacio) come nell’ultima immagine del video. Se si impedisce a Paramecium di “coniugarsi” si può moltiplicare solo per circa 350 volte e poi si estingue.
Tanta complessità in un organismo invisibile ad occhio nudo, che è composto da una “sola cellula”!
I Parameci di questo video vivono sotto un vaso di fiori, nella palestra dove quotidianamente faccio allenamento.
Non c’è bisogno di andare lontano per percepire la meraviglia della Vita.
