What's Happening in the Panjshir Valley? | Anti-Taliban Rebels In Afghanistan 2021

The Panjshir Resistance, also known as Second Resistance, Resistance 2, Northern Alliance or National Resistance Force (NRF), is a movement based in Afghanistan's Panjshir Valley and several environs in the surrounding provinces which continue to hold out against the Taliban who swept to power throughout the country in their May 2021 offensive culminating in the Fall of Kabul on 15 August 2021. The Panjshir Resistance are led by Ahmad Massoud, son of the warlord Ahmad Shah Massoud who defended the Panjshir Valley against both Soviet and Taliban aggression in the 1980s and 1990s, and by Amrullah Saleh, the former Vice President and self-proclaimed President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Throughout August the several thousand strong Panjshir Resistance have battled against the Taliban and kept them out of the previously unconquered Panjshir Valley, even expanding their control to several adjacent districts, but how long will their good fortune last, who could support them externally, and what are their longterm aims?
