STORYLINE:
Taiwanese singer Sun Sheng Xi, rapper MC HotDog and rock band No Party for Cao Dong became the biggest winners of the 35th Golden Melody Awards Saturday, by respectively winning the Best Female Mandarin Vocalist, Best Male Mandarin Vocalist and the Best Mandarin Album.
No Party for Cao Dong also landed Best Band and Album of the Year, for their sophomore album “The Clod.”
The group's manager accepted the awards on the Taiwanese quartet's behalf, explaining No Party For Cao Dong had “prior work-related engagements,” so could not attend the award ceremony at Taipei Arena.
MC HotDog and Sun posed for photos together, holding their trophies up for the cameras.
The Taiwanese rap artist, also known as Yao Chung-ren, said he was surprised by his win.
“I never thought I would receive this award because my competitors were very strong," he said. "And critics’ predictions were not in my favor. So, having this in my hands is very surprising and shocking.”
Sun said she too had not allowed her hopes to rise.
“I told myself not to expect too much," the singer said. "And I think I still have a long way to go, so, it would not matter if it were not me. But I still won the award, so it feels strange.”
