To magnetize a screwdriver, place the magnet on the base of the shaft and pull the screwdriver along the magnet until it slides away from the tip. Now, ferrous (iron-based) metal screws can be picked up with ease. To demagnetize, simply reverse the process. Place the tip of the screwdriver on the edge of the magnet and push it forward.
