When cooked, basmati rice has a unique aroma that some compare to that of popcorn. In Hindi, "basmati" indicates "fragrant" or "full of aroma." In some regions, it's referred to as "the queen of fragrant rice."

The majority of the world's supply of basmati rice comes from India, which produces two-thirds of the world's total. Archaeologists have uncovered a species of long-grain rice near Udaipur, India, dating back between 2000 and 1600 BC, which they believe is an ancestor of basmati rice.

The Himalayan foothills have been home to the cultivation of basmati rice for centuries. It's now a common ingredient in many Indian recipes, and it's also popular all around the globe.

White and brown types of basmati rice are available. Both have a distinct nutty flavor and aroma. In contrast, the white basmati is a more refined variety. There is nothing left save the hulls, bran, and germ. Only the hull is removed from brown basmati. You can have both varieties in your diet, which are both nutritious and delightful.

Is basmati rice good for diabetics?

The complex carbs in rice make it ideal for diabetics because they are broken down more slowly than other foods. This increases our satiety, but it also lowers our blood sugar levels.
Basmati rice has a GI score between low and moderate. In other words, you can take it as long as you don't combine it with anything else that would raise your glycemic index. When you're having steak, for example, you can substitute basmati rice for bread or potatoes.

Eat plenty of protein-rich lean meats and non-starchy vegetables to balance out the carbohydrate content in this dish (no more than a half cup serving). Don't eat it on a regular basis either.

Thank you.
