There were times when I passed Yongsan Station while driving. At dusk, I used to be fascinated by the lights of the colorful buildings. So I purposely visited Yongsan station at that time. Only a few years ago, in front of Yongsan Station, there was a unlicensed prostitution street and a temporarily built pub street, which changed. It disappeared like a lie and buildings of overwhelming size rose on the spot. Long ago there was a shabby little Yongsan station and its squre. I remember waiting for many hours alone to meet someone. I can say that Yongsan station is such a place to me.
가끔 한번씩 운전을 하면서 용산역 앞을 지날 때가 있다. 해질 무렵의 불빛이 제법 화려해 매혹되곤 했다. 그래서 일부러 그 시간에 용산역을 찾았다. 그 주변을 둘러보기 위하여. 불과 몇년 전만해도 용산역 앞에는 집창촌과 임시로 지어진 주점 거리가 있었음을 기억한다. 그리고 지금 그 자리에는 압도적인 크기의 빌딩이 솟아있다. 거짓말처럼. 그보다 훨씬 오래 전에는 낡고 작은 용산역과 그 광장이 있었다. 영화 번지점프를 하다의 그 시절쯤. 어린 나는 그곳에서 누군가를 만나기 위해 여러 시간을 혼자 기다렸던 기억이 있다. 나에게 용산역이란 대충 그런 곳이라 할 수 있다.
