Originally published in 2012, science author David Quammen’s book Spillover hypothesized the increasing frequency of diseases spreading from animals to humans, coupled with the speed and ease of modern world travel, could be the recipe for a global pandemic. Now, in the midst of COVID-19, Quammen discusses his work and unique insights into how, where, and why diseases emerge.
