Everyday my papa would work
아버지는 매일 일을 하셨죠

Every night my papa would take me

After all my prayers were said

And there were years

Of sadness and of tears
슬픔과 눈물로 보내던 날들이
Through it all
하지만 그런 시간을
Together we were strong
강하게 함께 견뎠죠
We were strong
우리는 강하게 견뎠죠
Times were rough
힘들었지만
But Papa he was tough
아버지는 강인하셨죠
Mama stood beside him all along
어머니는 언제나 아버지 곁에서 힘이 돼주셨죠

Growing up with them was easy
부모님 슬하에서 어려운 일 없이 자랐죠
The time had flew on by
시간은 빨리도 흘러갔고
The years began to fly
쏜살같이 세월이 지나갔죠
They aged and so did I
부모님은 나이가 드셨고 나도 그랬죠

And I could tell
난 알 수 있었죠
That mama she wasn't well
어머니가 편찮으시다는 걸
Papa knew and deep down so did she
아버지도 아셨고 어머니도 내심 알고 계셨죠
So did she
어머니도 알고 계셨죠
When she died
어머니가 돌아가셨을 때
Papa broke down and he cried
아버지는 주저앉아 우셨죠
And all he could say was, "God, why her? Take me!"
그리고 이렇게만 말씀하셨죠, “신이시여, 날 데려가지 그러셨어요!”

Everyday he sat there sleeping in a rocking chair
매일밤 아버지는 흔들의자에 앉아 잠드셨죠
He never went upstairs
더 이상 윗층에 올라가지 않으셨죠
Because she wasn't there
어머니가 거기 계시지 않았으니까요
Then one day my Papa said,
그러던 어느날 아버지는 말씀하셨죠
"Son, I'm proud of how you've grown.”
“아들아, 난 네 자란 모습이 대견하구나.”
He said, "Go out and make it on your own.
아버지는 말씀하셨죠, “이제 나가서 혼자 힘으로 살아가거라.
Don't worry. I'm O.K. alone."
걱정 말아라. 나 혼자 잘 지낼 수 있단다.”
He said, "There are things that you must do"
아버지는 말씀하셨죠, “네가 꼭 해야 할 일들이 있단다.”
He said, "There's places you must see"
“그리고 네가 꼭 봐야 할 곳들이 있단다”
And his eyes were sad as he
아버지의 눈을 슬퍼보였죠
As he said goodbye to me
내게 작별인사를 하실 때

Every time I kiss my children
내 아이들에게 입 맞출 때 마다
Papa's words ring true
아버지의 말씀이 사실이란 걸 깨닫죠
He said, "Children live through you.
아버지는 말씀하셨죠, “아이들은 자라면서 널 닮는단다.”
Let them grow! They'll leave you, too"
아이들이 자라도록 해라! 네 아이들도 네 곁을 떠날 거란다.”
I remember every word Papa used to say
난 아버지가 해주시던 말을 모두 기억하고 있어요
I kiss my kids and pray
난 아이들에게 입맞춰주고 기도하죠
That they'll think of me
아이들이 날 기억해 주길

오, 난 기도한답니다
They will think of me
