Stem cells are like empty paint palettes of the body: depending on how they are painted, they serve different purposes. They can turn into blood, skin, and bone cells - basically any cells needed for the body. How does this work? This is called stem cell differentiation, where stem cells become the specialized cells mentioned before. No other cell in the body has this natural ability to generate new cell types. In my presentation, I want to explore this unique ability of stem cells, the transformation it undergoes, the implications of stem cells, and current existing research regarding stem cells. I would also like to pitch in my own personal experience as well.  Joseph Zhang is a dedicated junior at Clear Lake High School, with a passion for the field of cell biology. In his pursuit of knowledge and experience, Joseph has already made significant strides in the scientific community. He competed in the Science and Engineering Fair of Houston and placed second in the Medicine and Health category. He has also attended TERMIS - AM, where he discussed his work with professionals. Despite the controversy surrounding stem cell research, Joseph is committed to shedding light on the potential of hASC research and its implications for future medical advancements. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
