The Roland R26 ($399) vs the Zoom F4 ($649) field recorders.

Both recorders are plugged into the Sennheiser MKH 416 Shotgun Mic attached to a boom pole.

I was very impressed with how well the Roland R26's preamps held up to the more expensive Zoom F4.
