Maserati’s new Grecale Folgore SUV

Maserati is on a fast track to becoming an all-electric brand by 2050, with battery-powered models now a feature of every new model line.
We were mightily impressed with the Italian sports-luxury marque’s first effort, the GranTurismo Folgore, and now there’s a lot riding on the EV version of the Maserati Grecale – not least because the electric mid-size sports-luxury SUV will be a volume seller for the brand.
It’s lining up against the incoming Porsche Macan Turbo EV and Audi SQ 6 e-tron, to name just two major rivals, and looks the goods on paper with strong dual-motor performance, 500km-plus range, sharp-suited looks and a classy cabin.
But as John Mahoney found at the international launch, the Grecale Folgore doesn’t hit all the targets we might have expected from Maserati.
