Intermittent fasting diet or the idea of fasting for most of the day and then eating all your calories in a short period of time is the latest craze in the dieting community. In this video we will learn about this diet and see if it really works. Intermittent fasting is a term used to describe a non-specific fast. The premise behind intermittent fasting is to get the body used to using fat for energy in a healthy, natural way. Over the last five years or so, this diet has become a craze in the dieting community and everybody seems to be championing it. How it works There are several options on how to follow an intermittent fasting diet. Here are our top 4 examples. Determine which is best for you by trying them out! Option 1: Weekly Fasting This is a moderate alternative of Intermittent fasting, the user choses to completely fast for 18-20 hours once per week. In this option, you would eat typically over the week, and then pick one day to eat minimally. Since sleep time counts, try finishing up a dinner the night before by 7pm then fast until 3 pm the following day. Basically, you’ll be skipping one breakfast and going for a late lunch. Option 2: Periodic Fasts In this program, you will fast 2 to 3 days per week. Eating days are with a typical calorie intake, where you eat healthy food based on how hungry you are. The fasting days are simply restricted days with just one major meal and a few healthy snacks during the day. Choose days with less physical activity as fasting days, while on workout days you should eat regular meals. Option 3: 16 Hour Fast This is a daily fasting diet. In this diet, you fast for 16 hours and then take all your calories in the remaining 8 hours. Since sleeping is also considered fasting, one of the best ways to implement this diet is to eat from 12pm to 8pm during the day and fast for the rest of the time. Stating simply you will skip the breakfast everyday. Make sure to perform your workout during the feeding time of the day, so that you have the energy to do the workout. Option 4: The Warrior Fast or 20 Hour Fast This is also a daily fasting diet. This is one of the most extreme forms of Intermittent Fasting, which involves fasting the whole day and then feasting at night. The large full meal is taken over the course of four hours, allowing you to get all the calories you might need. It was motivated by the idea that the human body evolved from hunter-gatherers who grazed during the day and feasted in the evenings. Intermittent Fasting and Weight Loss Intermittent Fasting in my opinion is the ideal diet for those looking to lose weight. Repeated research has shown that, simply restricting calories in all our meals is not a long-term solution, when it comes to losing weight. You feel hungry all the times and are a higher risk of overeating during your meal. Intermittent fasting is a better approach as it only allows you one or two meals. Since these meals will be big, your chances of overeating during them decreases significantly. Also instead of feeling hungry all the time you atleast get a chance to eat to your full once or twice a day and feel satisfied.. Initially, the period of time without food is going to be difficult to adapt to. However, the body adapts to the change in habit and learns to use readily available fat stores for energy. The important thing to keep in mind is to only include healthy foods in your feasts. Note that intermittent fasting is not intended for everyone.
