A few (not so) Humble Suggestions" at CannMed 23. 0:00 What’s Wrong with the Cannabis Industry? 7:03 Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV): Properties and Promise 10:55 THCV vs. CBD 12:20 THCV and THC 14:11 Cannabigerol (CBG): The Next Big Thing 19:45 CBG vs. CBD 20:53 CBG and THC 23:18 Extraction Technique 28:25 Conclusion 30:07 New Cannabinoid Discovery Program 37:11 Q&A This presentation will examine the myriad problems facing the cannabis industry, foremost among them, the perpetuation of cannabis prohibition and the resulting inability to engage in normal commerce, banking, borrowing, ability to obtain insurance and exercise tax deductions. Beyond that, the field is inundated with newbies, all thinking that their success in real estate or the entertainment industry ensures success in commercial development of what is a technologically complex plant whose extraction and processing is extremely challenging ,even without the legal and regulatory hurdles. Cannabidiol, despite its amazing safety and therapeutic versatility, has not proven to be the cash cow that everyone expected, and its commoditization has flooded the market with competing unproven products and led to unmanageable surpluses, price crashes and the development of synthetic “hemp-derived” compounds of highly questionable safety. What is a plant-loving scientist/entrepreneur to do? Suggestions will be offered regarding proper diversification, selective breeding, development of minor cannabinoid chemovars, and the application of greater imagination in manufacturing products that are genuinely needed to make cannabis safer and better.
