In the Czech Republic, archaeologists came across an ancient well that they believed to be the oldest wooden structure in the world. It was discovered in east Bohemia, near the small town of Ostrov. While construction of a new highway was underway near the town, they came across the wooden timbers of the well, and archaeologists were called to investigate.
Excavations revealed a small wooden box that once lined the walls of the well. It was not that large, only about 2.5 x 2.5 ft (0.8x0.8m).
But it was an authentic wooden structure from the Stone Age! The reason it's so shocking is that it came from the Neolithic period, sometime around the year 5255 BC. That's over 7000 years ago, confirmed using dendrochronological dating techniques and measuring rings in the wooden planks.
