Ever wondered how the pro's anchor?

Anchoring can be a huge frustration for all new boaters, but with a bit of know how, it doesn't have to be!

Which anchor is the best? None! There are different anchors for different conditions. A Sand Anchor is appropriate for...sand! A plow anchor will work well in mud or rough bottoms, and a reef pick is ideal for anchoring on a reef.

A lot of boaters don't understand how much length of rope and chain is necessary for effective anchoring. As a rule of thumb you should have as much chain as the length of your boat in rough conditions, less is required in calm conditions.
As for rope, the ideal length is 3 times the depth of water you are in. If you are in 40m of water, you will need around 120m of rope. Obviously you can have lots more rope than this on the boat and just tie it off at the appropriate length.

The reason having he appropriate length of chain and rope is so that the anchor works as it has been designed - to be dragged along the seabed, not "scalloping" up and down in the water and on the seabed.

Now that you have the correct anchor for the conditions and for your boat, you still have to pull it up each time you need to move? Wrong!
Using an Anchor Buoy and a bit of know how, you can dislodge the anchor and have it floating on the surface without a bead of sweat.
Maneuvering your boat and using and the principles of buoyancy on the Anchor Buoy, you can simply bring in your rope and chain using very little effort on your behalf.
