Transforming dry, barren and desert areas into a kind of lands that are productive and useful is really an impossible task to accomplish. But persistence and perseverance make the impossible possible. That’s what you are going to witness in today’s video. After spending decades planting trees in the desert, farmers in China has helped make the vast land green again.

In 1978 the Chinese government sketched up a plan. A wall of trees, around 4500 kilometers long, built to block the expansion of the desert, shield against sandstorms and offset the country’s carbon emissions.

The Great Green Wall of China is the largest afforestation project in the world with over 66 billion trees planted in an effort to combat desert expansion.

In the past decades, more than 7.88 million hectares of windbreak trees have been planted, 336,200 square kilometers of desertification have been reversed, and more than 10 million hectares of grasslands have been protected or restored, according to a report released by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
