Finding Cheap & Affordable Travel Destinations

Scoring a cheap flight is an important first step, but can you afford the place once you get off the airplane? Some destinations offer an amazing value for the money, some not so much. But is there an accurate way to figure this out before you depart?

I'm a prolific world traveler and former economics teacher. A few years ago I happened upon a simple but surprisingly accurate way to estimate my costs of traveling in most nations well before I arrived. This has become a travel essential (or travel hack) for me in figuring out where I can afford to go. Spoiler alert, it involves hamburgers...McDonalds Big Macs to be precise! And depending on where you are going, KFC chicken buckets, and McDonald's Happy Meals can also be useful tools as well!
