Today brought temperatures slightly above average and lots of sunshine! You can expect more of the same for the first half of the work week. Into tonight, temperatures will slowly drop into the upper-60’s with low-70’s at the coastline by tomorrow morning. We will see slightly more humid conditions into Tuesday, but a lack of lift in our atmosphere will keep rain chances near zero. Highs will be back to around 90 degrees by Tuesday afternoon, and we will see just a few clouds throughout the day. Wednesday will bring more sunshine and drier conditions. By Thursday and Friday, deeper tropical moisture will move into the area bringing increased rain chances. Highs will be cooler in the mid-80’s thanks to the rain and increased cloud cover. Rip current risk will remain low until late Wednesday when it increases to moderate. In the tropics, we are still monitoring Isaac, Joyce, and Kirk, but they do not pose a threat to the US or the Gulf Coast. An area in the eastern Atlantic will likely develop into a tropical system over the next week, but it will stay out in the open Atlantic. There is one area that is expected to enter the southwestern Gulf over the next several days. It has a medium chance of development, and this would at the very least bring tropical moisture to parts of the Gulf Coast. It does not pose an immediate threat to our area. The WKRG News 5 First Alert Storm Team covers part of southeast Mississippi, southwestern Alabama, and northwest Florida.
